Damien Rodriguez accused of killing a teen

Rodriguez was charged with the death of Christopher Noah Garrett. A Family Court judge ruled Thursday that the teen can be tried as an adult in the case, the attorney’s office said in a statement Friday morning.

The state filed a motion to transfer Rodiguez’s case to the Court of General Sessions, Caroline Fox, senior assistant attorney who prosecuted the case in Family Court, said in the statement.

After a hearing, Family Court Judge Holly Wall ruled that the charges should be referred to the General Sessions court. There are no immediate hearings scheduled at this time. Garrett, who was 14, was shot multiple times by another minor, who was not identified at the time, according to police reports.

Horry County Police Department officers responded to reports of gunfire on Barons Bluff Road in Conway, according to an incident report. An officer on the scene was directed to a wooded area, where the unnamed juvenile was lying on his back with multiple bleeding wounds, according to the report.
