The incident occurred Wednesday night at North Conduit Avenue and 160th Street in the Springfield Gardens neighborhood.

Keisha Francis, the teen’s devastated mother, told The New York Post that the last time she spoke to her daughter was less than an hour before the accident. “Before hanging up, she said, ‘Mom, I love you.’ Francis said that her daughter was a “beautiful, intelligent, loving, kind and caring girl,” and that she was a “very caring girl.” And she is loved by many.

Williams, who was a student at Springfield Gardens High School, had been taking nursing classes. She was an honor roll student and dreamed of becoming a doctor. “She had an honor roll ceremony on the 24th, and we were preparing for that and her birthday is coming up on June 4,” Francis said. She continued: ‘My life will never be the same without Fortune. Fortune is a love. She is a loving and caring girl.

Francis also told the news site that she was working when the tragedy occurred and that her daughter was out with a friend in her car. Police are now investigating why the 16-year-old was behind the wheel with another minor. The NYPD says he was driving with a learner’s permit and speeding.
