Daniela Velazquez , 17, of Wrightstown, southwest of Green Bay, was reported missing on Sunday, January 29, according to a statement from the Brown County Sheriff’s Office.

Velázquez’s mother reported her missing when she did not return home and her car was found crashed in a ditch that afternoon. Her shoes and phone were recovered outside the vehicle.

The teen’s body was found on Monday a quarter mile from the car, which is believed to have crashed in an accident. It is not believed that there was any foul play regarding death.

Brown County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) Capt. David Poteat said during a news conference Tuesday that snowy conditions made finding Velazquez difficult. Wisconsin was hit with bitterly cold conditions when Velázquez was reported missing, according to Fox affiliate WLUK.

Poteat added: “As anyone knows and has been out in recent days, those are not ideal conditions in general to search, which added to the difficulty.” Police searched a 37-acre area for Velasquez and officers used snowmobiles, a K-9 team and drones in an attempt to locate her.

An autopsy is scheduled to take place, although hypothermia is strongly believed to be the cause of death.Poteat added: “She was definitely not dressed for the weather and, you know, being outside in condition for an extended period of time is going to result in a death in a short period of time.”Read More…..
