He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in business administration in 1993 with a major in sociology, and was sought out by the Philippine Track and Field Association (PATAFA) as a potential medalist for the decathlon, a track and field event comprising 10 track and field competitions, such as per reports. He was beaten, threatened with a gun and forced to give up his Porsche Cayenne Turbo due to his subsequent scam, according to the Los Angeles Times.

In March 2010, David reached an agreement with Gene Hammett of Action Seating, a sports ticket broker. David would receive $3 million worth of tickets to the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver in exchange for the payment, and Hammet would resell the tickets to interested parties, as stipulated in the agreement. David was forced to pay Hammett $325,000 as a result of his failure to deliver, Rappler reported.

Bunevacz made headlines again and was arrested in April 2022 for a scheme to defraud investors. Mary Hayca Bunevacz, his stepdaughter, was also charged with aiding and abetting. Between April 2017 and September 2019, David created two front companies that were allegedly producing marijuana vape pens, according to reports.

On July 18, 2022, David pleaded guilty to one count of wire fraud and one count of securities fraud. US District Judge Dale S Fischer also ordered him to pay $35,267,851 in restitution.
