Between April 2017 and September 2019, David created two front companies that were allegedly producing marijuana vape pens, according to reports.

On July 18, 2022, David pleaded guilty to one count of wire fraud and one count of securities fraud. US District Judge Dale S Fischer also ordered him to pay $35,267,851 in restitution.
