A Gastonia man Eliezer Colon Garcia is facing charges after he fled the scene when his truck was hit by a train at about 12:30 a.m. Saturday, officials said. The suspect is abaout 40, tried to beat the train at tracks at East Ozark Avenue and Cox Road in Gastonia, officials said.

The train struck the driver’s side of the truck, and Garcia abandoned the vehicle before leaving the scene. Police located Garcia and arrested him. Garcia was charged with driving while impaired and fleeing the scene of a hit-and-run.
