Investigators confirmed on Friday night, January 13, that Ivon Adams was charged with the first-degree murder of 4-year-old Athena Brownfield. No other information was provided regarding what led to these charges.
Ivon Adams, 36, was arrested Thursday, January 12, in Arizona on one count of child neglect in the case of Athena Brownfield, the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation said in a news release. Since then, the charges have increased. Court documents show that “subject was arrested pursuant to a felony warrant issued in Oklahoma for first-degree murder and child neglect.” The documents also say Adams was arrested on “pending murder charges.”
Alysa Adams, along with her estranged husband, Ivon was responsible for the care of Athena and her five-year-old sister. Alysa, 31, was also previously charged with two counts of child neglect, one for each of the children in her care. She remains jailed in Caddo County, Oklahoma. Ivon is being held at the Maricopa County jail in Phoenix pending his extradition to Oklahoma, OSBI said. Although murder charges have been filed, the police are still hoping to find Athena or her body.

Police were alerted to Athena’s disappearance on January 11 after a mail carrier noticed Athena’s five-year-old sister abandoned near her home in Cyril, Okla., around 2:00 p.m. m. Authorities launched a desperate search for the girl that night, but have yet to release any further details. Athena’s sister was taken into protective custody, authorities said. “We are still working to put together the exact timeline,” OSBI spokesman Brook Arbeitman said, according to KOCO.
“I can confirm that this investigation really started at 2pm yesterday when the mailman located the 5-year-old boy and contacted the police department. And then we got involved later that night. All of our law enforcement partners were joined us, and we’ve been looking for her non-stop ever since the original call came through to the police department.”
According to authorities, Athena was last seen wearing a butterfly-patterned hoodie when she went missing. Law enforcement have deployed helicopters and conducted grid searches on foot with the help of volunteers and four-wheelers. They have also used boats in small ponds.Read More…
