The defense also presented a letter from his partner arguing that Kokozian had a cyst on his brain that “can have very serious effects on a person’s behavior, especially if left untreated.” But prosecutors told the court there was “no medical documentation to support what the letter said.” When his attorney referred to the two deaths in the collision, Mr. Kokozian became visibly angry, cried, and then exclaimed, “I have a daughter, why would I do that?”

Magistrate Robert Rabage denied him bail, saying it was an “overwhelming case” and said it appeared “on the surface” that Kokozian was the driver. His next game will be on Wednesday, September 6 against Liverpool Court. Paramedics treated Mrs. Kauffman and her brother Ernesto at the scene, but were unable to revive them. The couple was driving home after the sister picked up her brother from her new job and were just a few feet from her house when her car was hit.

Angelina Kauffman, the mother of the two brothers, spoke to the media on Saturday about her devastating loss. “My daughter is such a beautiful girl, she loves her brother,” she said. “And my son loves her sister.
