A New Jersey man Krzysztof Nieroda allegedly shot and killed his wife and teenage children before dying by his own hand. “It’s hard to find words to describe the impact a tragedy like this has on our community, particularly for families, our children and first responders,” said Linden Police Chief David Hart. “We are not alone in our pain; each of us has a shared responsibility to be there for our loved ones as we mourn the loss of our friends and neighbors. Police said they responded Sunday at about 9:30 a.m. to the house at 18 Chatham Place for a wellness check. They found four people shot. Officers determined that the father, Krzysztof Nieroda 41, killed his wife Justnya Nieroda, 41, and daughter Natalia Nieroda, 13. He also shot their son, Sebastian Nieroda, 14, who initially survived.

The father called a family member on the phone and said he fatally shot his wife and his children, officials said. Shortly after, he shot himself in the head. Authorities said they found the gun in his hand when they arrived. Police said Sebastian succumbed to his injuries at Newark University Hospital.

“We are closely monitoring the horrific shooting in Linden that left three people dead, including a child, and sent another juvenile victim to the hospital in critical condition,” Gov. Phil Murphy said in a statement Sunday before Sebastian died. “This is an ongoing investigation with many questions to be answered.
