A Dayton woman, who was a Troy resident at the time of the crimes, was found guilty and sentenced for engaging in sexual activity with a child under the age of 15 while with her family. Leslie Dewalt, 37, was sentenced Monday to more than a year in prison after being found guilty of sexual misconduct with a minor while she was living in the same home with her family.

Dewalt was originally charged with felony unlawful sexual conduct with a minor, but later pleaded guilty to an amended count of attempted unlawful sexual conduct with a minor.

The defendant admitted that she sought the help of a counselor while she was also prescribed medication. However, her medication “was not working at the time” of the defendant’s encounters with the minor, the defendant said in Miami County Court of Common Pleas.

Due to the nature of the crime involving a minor child, Assistant County Attorney Matthew Joseph said that while treatment was an appropriate part of the sentence, prison time was also warranted. Dewalt was sentenced to 14 months in prison, with credit given for 118 days served in jail since her arrest.
