A man is accused of shooting and killing his wife, an elementary school teacher, and then leaving her to die. Lucas Cooper, 39, is in custody in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, according to the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office in New Jersey, after authorities say he murdered 35-year-old Temara King in her Jersey City apartment on Tuesday morning.
“Approximately 7:09 a.m. m., the Jersey City Police Department was notified of the shooting on the third floor of 340 Bergen Avenue,” prosecutors wrote. That’s the address of a three-story residential building called the Toy Factory Apartments.
Police officers arrived to find King suffering from apparent gunshot wounds, prosecutors said. First responders took her to the Jersey City Medical Center, but she was pronounced dead at 8:06 a.m. The medical examiner has not revealed a cause or manner of death. Police are investigating the death as an act of domestic violence, but details about a possible motive remain unclear.

King’s 14-year-old daughter called 911 and said her father shot the victim multiple times, according to NBC New York, citing law enforcement sources. Her daughter called 911 in an attempt to save her mother’s life, Jersey City Public Schools reportedly told WPIX.
The teenager was physically unharmed.“I really, really heard the shots and it went bang, bang, bang, and it was all quiet,” neighbor Joanne told NBC.The crime scene was reportedly a corner apartment, where two bullet holes were visible in a window.King was a special education teacher at School No. 5, the Dr. Michael Conti School. He graduated from New Jersey City College in 2011.
“Temara was serving the students in our community after earning a B.A. degrees in Early Childhood Education P-3, Teacher Certification in P-3 and Special Education, and Sociology,” the school said on Facebook.
“Our hearts are broken by the sudden and violent loss of Temara King,” Jersey City Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Norma Fernandez said, according to NBC. “She was an outstanding educator and dedicated faculty member.
