Scott Forrest Collins convicted of murder, died in prison

In February 2022, Scott told Fox News that she felt abandoned by prosecutors when Gasc√≥n announced his sentence. “I had the feeling that the detectives and the police department were looking for justice, they wanted to know the truth,” Scott said, referring to law enforcement in the ’90s.

Scott said, “They wanted to make sure they had the right person, and they didn’t stop until they felt confident they had him behind bars,” adding that the district attorney’s office acted as their “advocate” at the time. “They fought for us, like you would fight for your own safety,” she said.

Gascon has long been vocal in his opposition to the death penalty, and last year his office told Fox News that no effort would be made to secure Collins’ release. Alex Bastian, who was serving as special assistant to prosecutor Gascon at the time, said: “We are not asking for his release, we are asking that his sentence be commuted to life in prison without the possibility of parole.”

“That’s something I think is important to keep in mind,” Batian said. “We’re not asking to resentence him to something that would put him in front of a parole board.” Collins had a long criminal record that began when he was still a minor, in the mid-1980s.

Before killing Rose, Collins is accused of using a Molotov cocktail to start a fire. Court records show he was also charged with stabbing a man in the back, stealing a woman’s car, assaulting a 15-year-old black youth while holding a knife and hurling racist slurs, threatening a cellmate with a knife and kick the officers who inquired about the incident.Read More….
