It all started in 1987 when a serial killer named Michel Paul Fourniret confessed to killing 12 people in France and Belgium between 1987 and 2003. His killing spree ended in June 2003 when he was arrested for the attempted kidnapping of a teenager in Ciney , Belgium. . During interrogation, Fourniret confessed to killing 9 people and was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. However, his wife, Monique, was also sanctioned in the case and was sent to prison for 28 years. So what exactly happened that he forced the authorities to put Monique behind bars? The story between Monique Olivier and Fourniret began in 1987 when Olivier responded to an ad in a Christian magazine. In the ad, Fourniret made it clear that he was a prisoner looking to have a friendship with someone to occupy his time. We can assume that he wanted a pen pal. Even after learning that he was a convicted felon, Olivier responded to that ad because she understood how alone it must feel. Thus began their friendship and they began to write letters. A total of 217 letters were exchanged between them (133 were sent by Fourniret and 84 by Olivier) over a period of 10 months and after that, he was released.

Reports suggest the duo shared every little detail of their lives in those letters and even when Fourniret admitted he was sent to prison for sexually assaulting multiple girls, she didn’t back down. It turned out that Olivier fell in love with Fourniret because he made her feel important. She didn’t feel alone now and he assured her that he would give her a better life by hurting her abusive ex-boyfriend named Andre.

Fourniret and Olivier got together and set out on a journey that was plagued with abuse and murder. They began to choose their victims and began to abuse them. However, things went from bad to worse when the duo began killing their victims as well. Olivier never stopped his partner from committing such heinous crimes, instead she would aid him in these crimes by actively participating in kidnappings and setting Fourniret up to sexually abuse girls.

The worst of all this is that she kept the victims locked up for as long as her husband wanted and even manually checked her virginity. She never told anyone that her husband committed such crimes and was an active accessory to it. But everything collapsed when Fourniret was arrested when he tried to kidnap a girl in 2003.

Olivier knew it was time they paid for his heinous crime and he told the authorities everything. She told them that her husband murdered eight women between 1987 and 2003. Olivier also revealed that she was an active accomplice and knew everything her husband was doing.

Before her trial in 2008, Olivier was believed to be submissive and was so afraid of her husband’s activities that she never tried to stop him from raping the girls. In 2008, when the trial began, she tried to prove how abusive Fourniret was and continued to threaten her and her son.
