Charges on Nakia Dorsey

According to a press release from the DeKalb County District Attorney’s Office, on November 10, 2022, Wilson went to Salazar-Chavez’s home to surprise her. However, when she got into the car with him, she was “withdrawn,” making Wilson suspicious, prosecutors said. She then asked him if she was seeing anyone else of hers and “demanded” him to hand over her cell phone.

While checking Salazar-Chavez’s phone, Wilson confronted her about a “suggestive text” on the phone sent from an unidentified number. Wilson then called the number and a person on the other end picked up the call, but he quickly hung up without saying anything, according to the statement.

“A short time later, a call came in to Salazar-Chavez’s phone from the same number and Wilson answered,” prosecutors wrote. “The person she called, later identified as Defendant Dorsey, argued with Wilson about which of them was Salazer-Chavez’s boyfriend.” After the controversial call, Dorsey “demanded” that Salazar-Chavez return her personal belongings. Salazar-Chavez and Wilson then left the house together in Wilson’s car, but Salazar-Chavez would never return to his house.

“When they returned around 11:00 p.m. m., Wilson noticed a red laser was shining on his face,” the statement said. “He saw a man dressed in black walk towards the car pointing a gun with a laser and opening fire. Wilson turned the car around to drive away and the shooter continued to unload at the vehicle. In total, 20 bullets passed through the body of the car. Wilson drove to a gas station on Glenwood Road and called 911.” When the melee ended, Wilson had suffered a single, non-fatal gunshot wound to the leg, but Salazar-Chavez was shot in the torso and arm and died of his wounds shortly thereafter.

An anonymous tip provided to authorities in the days after the shooting led to Dorsey becoming the prime suspect in the shooting. Messages from her social media accounts confirmed that he was the person Salazar-Chavez had been texting with. Cell phone location data also showed Dorsey was at Salazar-Chavez’s home just before the shooting. A few days later, Dorsey was located at an apartment complex near the scene of the shooting and taken into custody.Read More…
