A Florida “transient” on bail while facing grand theft and weapons charges showed up at a hotel with an armed gun and opened fire after finding a former lover with another woman, according to charging documents. Ruby Sky Ortiz, 23, was chased by an Osceola County deputy sheriff after her arrest Tuesday on attempted murder charges related to an Aug. 4 shooting at the Knights Inn in Kissimmee.

“On August 4, 2023, the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call for service at the Knights Inn, located at 4651 W. The victim was immediately taken to the hospital with serious injuries.”

An affidavit in support of Ortiz’s arrest, which described her as a “transient” (with no fixed address), noted that “a tourniquet was applied to [the victim’s] leg” at the scene and that it had to be ” rushed to surgery.” . The victim survived and she said she wanted to press charges after believing Ortiz was in the hospital hallway, authorities said.

Charges on Ruby Sky Ortiz

“As the victim left her ex’s bedroom, the defendant confronted her,” the documents say. “Ruby and [the victim] previously engaged in a sexual encounter and seeing [the victim] leave [the other woman’s] room became enraged.” That’s when the defendant allegedly pulled out a gun. “Ruby then brandished a firearm and pointed it at [the victim], threatening her, saying, ‘If I can’t have you, then no one can,'” the affidavit reads.

The victim ran to a friend’s room on the second floor. A man identified only by the nickname “Jelly,” who authorities say had an active felony warrant for his arrest since July, grabbed a gun to protect the victim, according to the documents, which list his Osceola case number as 23CF2214. That man was arrested.

A search of that case number in the court database leads to a criminal case against Anthony Lamar Lattimore, 42, for the alleged felony sale of cocaine within 1,000 feet of a place of worship. A search of the jail’s database indicates that Lattimore is currently in the custody of the Osceola County Department of Corrections and that he has been since Aug. 4, when the shooting occurred.

Investigators, citing witness accounts, said that after Ortiz brandished the firearm, they “exchanged [words] and this resulted in Ruby being embarrassed.”

“Ruby left but then returned while [the victim] was sitting on the stairs. Ruby shot [the victim] multiple times before leaving,” the affidavit reads. “[The victim] stated that he has known Ruby for approximately two months and sees her daily. [The victim] said that she and Ruby were once sexually involved in the past.”

A witness described as a friend of the victim who suffered a medical emergency after seeing the shooting told investigators there was also a discussion about money, according to the affidavit. The victim owed an “unknown amount of money to Ruby for an unknown reason,” the affidavit says. This witness also “wanted Ruby to be found and arrested.”

Ortiz was booked into the Osceola County Department of Corrections without bail, and it is far from her first run-in with the law. The defendant, who has been arrested numerous times in Osceola County since 2020 in cases of assault, drugs (cocaine and marijuana possession), and robbery (although the robbery was not prosecuted), was recently out on bail in a case Miami-Dade County. for carrying a concealed firearm and grand theft, according to an affidavit.
