A South Carolina house fire killed six people and left one in critical condition, prompting police to arrest Ryan Lenard Manigo for attempted murder.

Colleton County officials said first responders were alerted to a fire at Green Pond around 11 a.m. Sunday, and responding firefighters discovered six bodies inside a burning home. One survivor was located and airlifted to a local hospital, prompting police to charge 33-year-old Ryan Lenard Manigo with attempted murder of the victim.

“Additional charges are pending identification of the victims and autopsy results,” the Colleton County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement. Hiram Davis, a spokesman for the victims’ family, said the motive for the attack remains unclear.

“Today’s events that occurred in this quiet, nestled community of Green Pond are tragic,” Davis told local WCBD. “We ask everyone to give law enforcement time to do their job. We must always be vigilant. We must always keep an eye on our surroundings,” he added.

A neighbor, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said he had to stop five times on the highway to let emergency vehicles pass, only to discover that the cars were heading to his neighbor’s house. “We don’t have that in this community. There is no violence to that degree,” the neighbor told WCBD. “God help his souls. This community is better than that.”

Police have yet to reveal the names and ages of the victims, or say if they had any relationship or connection to Manigo. They also have not said whether Manigo is believed to have set the fire. Manigo is being held at the Colleton County Detention Center and is awaiting a bond hearing. It is not clear if Manigo has a lawyer yet.Read More…….
