Conrad Iyayi Wiki – Conrad Iyayi Biography

A father stabbed to death his wife, an art teacher, while their son slept upstairs after taking drugs obtained from the dark web, a court heard yesterday. Conrad Iyayi carried out the “brutal and unnecessary murder” after taking what he thought was the opioid methadone and drinking brandy, jurors heard. He said that when he passed through the kitchen the next morning and found the body of his wife, he realized that what he thought had been a dream “must have been reality.”

Jurors heard that Ms. Harris, 52, known as Katy, was found face down in a pool of blood, wearing only a T-shirt. An open bottle of brandy lay near her, along with three kitchen knives, all smeared with blood. Prosecutor Gordon Aspen KC said his 11-year-old son “luckily” did not hear the attack “so he knew nothing about his mother’s death” when police woke him up after answering Iyayi’s 999 call later that morning.

Mr. Aspen said: “During the night of February 5, 2022 until the early morning of February 6, this defendant murdered Kathryn by stabbing her to death in the kitchen of her family’s home. ‘It is not necessary to prove the precise motive of this defendant and in truth only two people knew it.

‘One of them, Kathryn, is dead and this defendant has consistently refused to reveal the truth. However, there is evidence you will hear that the drugs and alcohol he had chosen to take prior to the murder played a role in his actions. “Ultimately, all we’re left with is brutal murder and some pretty needless death.”

Derby Crown Court heard that Iyayi dialed 999 from a phone box down the road from him in the nearby suburb of Littleover. He told the call operator: ‘Just get the police here right away. Bring the police here, I’ve killed someone.” When asked who he had killed, Iyayi replied: “My wife.”

Mr Aspden continued: ‘Uniformed officers arrived and he met them in the street. He had a deep cut on his left hand and his clothes were heavily stained with blood. They asked him what had happened and he said, “I think my wife might be dead, I’m not saying anything, I want to see a lawyer.” The jury was shown body camera footage of the arrest and his transfer to the police station. While he was in the police car, he asked: ‘What am I under arrest for?’ When told he was in custody for murder, Iyayi, 45, said: “Oh, sure.”

At the police station he said he used methadone, which Aspden told the jury was prescribed for people recovering from drug addicts. Iyayi also said that he had been drinking brandy. The court heard that while he was in custody, Iyayi made a number of comments that the officers took note of. They included him saying: ‘I buy methadone on the dark web’ and ‘now you have a murder, that’s the danger of drugs’.

The prosecutor said Iyayi gave two police interviews “without comment” before handing officers a prepared statement in which he said he had purchased what he believed to be methadone online. Iyayi said he ingested the drug sometime after 10:30 p.m. m. on February 5 and realized that it was not what he thought.

He said: ‘I was hallucinating, my heart was pounding making me think he was going to die. “I woke up the next morning and went through the kitchen where I saw my wife. What I thought was a dream must have been reality and I contacted the police. I had no intention of hurting Kathryn, prior to this incident we had spent a lovely evening cooking together and watching TV.”

At the start of the proceedings, Mr. Aspen warned the jury that the evidence they would “see and hear during this proceeding is, by any standard, and I mean by any standard, disturbing, graphic and harrowing.” Ms Harris, who also had two adult children, worked at a special needs community school in Mickleover, Derbyshire, until her death. Iyayi, from Littleover, denies the murder.Read More……..
