A Tennessee man has been charged with murder for fatally shooting his girlfriend’s husband. Darrin Ruben Lopez was accused of fatally shooting James Faith, 49, in 2020. The 51-year-old’s girlfriend has been sentenced to life in prison for hiring him to kill her husband.

James was murdered on the couple’s 15th wedding anniversary in October 2020. He suffered three blows to the torso, one to the groin and three gunshot wounds to the head while walking his dog with his wife Jennifer. Lopez’s trial in Dallas, Texas, will last a week, according to Law and Crime

Lopez is a disabled Army veteran who claimed his high school girlfriend tricked him into murdering her husband. He drove more than 600 miles to fatally shoot James just months after he reconnected with Jennifer during the Covid-19 pandemic. The gun the killer used to kill the man was found at Lopez’s home. The 51-year-old man was then charged with a federal firearms offense.

Investigators later discovered that Jennifer used two fake email accounts to write to Lopez while posing as her husband. In emails from her, she told the defendant that James physically and sexually abused her. Jennifer, the American Airlines executive’s widow, continued to send Lopez money and gifts before and after James’s shooting death. She also created a GoFundMe page to raise money the day after her husband’s death.

Jennifer was arrested after she pleaded guilty to the murder-for-hire plot and was charged with obstruction of justice earlier when authorities found evidence that she helped Lopez destroy evidence.

After investigators raided Lopez’s home, a Samsung flat-screen television sent to her by Jennifer raised suspicions. They then searched her phone and discovered that she continued to send messages to Lopez with more than 14,000 text messages exchanged between them. She previously told her friend that she had a five-year plan for what she would be like with Lopez, with whom she had a “full-blown emotional affair.” Later, Jennifer told the friend that she had to end the relationship because she would hurt James.

In a 2021 statement, US Attorney Prerak Shah stated, “Even as she publicly claimed she was ‘desperate for answers’ about her husband’s murder, Jennifer Faith was reaching out to the alleged killer, actively urging him to destroy evidence and attempting to delete incriminating communications from his phone.

Jennifer, who regularly updated Lopez on her efforts to collect on her husband’s life insurance policy, also instructed the defendant on how to answer potential police questions to avoid being caught. She also asked Lopez to pose as her old friend and told him to follow the narrative of a single father divorcing her. “We talk every night because I am helping/supporting the girls since you have sole custody. If the time ever comes, I will respond in kind. Just so you and I have the same explanations,” Jennifer allegedly told Lopez.Read More…..
