Charges on Matthew Mannix

Mannix was recently arrested for holding a woman hostage at the Caesars Palace hotel in Las Vegas. According to a probable cause affidavit obtained by The Independent, Mannix was allegedly experiencing “drug-induced” schizophrenia when he held the woman hostage inside room 2128 on the 21st floor of the complex. The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department revealed that Mannix was wanted in Colorado and has a full extradition warrant for fugitive out of state.

However, the reason behind the outstanding warrant was removed from the arrest report. Reports suggest that Mannix was the registered occupant of room 2128 and aroused suspicion after hotel security informed authorities of a domestic dispute within the room. The victim and Mannix reportedly knew each other. They were reportedly “experiencing a transient lifestyle on the Las Vegas Strip and had been using illegal narcotics for the past few days” prior to the hostage situation.

Although Mannix claimed the victim was “her girlfriend and he loved her” after he was taken into custody, the woman and Mannix allegedly had an on-off intimate relationship. The woman told officials that she slept with the fugitive under the impression that he was an MTV actor. She further mentioned that she was afraid to leave the room because Mannix had a knife and she thought he would throw her out of the window he broke in the hotel room.

Officials mentioned that Mannix caused at least $50,000 worth of damage to the room. One of the investigators said Mannix left the pool deck littered with furniture and glass and claimed the property damage inside his room was “some of the most severe I’ve seen in my 18 years as a detective.” A judge set Mannix’s bail at $750,000 due to concerns about “the extremely violent nature” of his alleged crimes, the active warrant for his arrest in Colorado and his criminal history.

After hotel authorities informed law enforcement officers of the hostage situation, Mannix barricaded himself and the woman inside the room, saying, “If they come into the room, [I] will shoot someone.” “. He later said: “If you don’t leave, it will end badly.” The Las Vegas SWAT team responded to the situation after officers heard the hostage say, “He’s got a knife,” through the door.

As the negotiators and police officers communicated with Mannix, he refused to let the victim out. He allegedly began taunting the officers by opening and closing the room door while saying that he had a “magazine full of rounds” and would “pull the trigger.” Mannix allegedly told officials that he would “cut her tongue out of her mouth” if the woman spoke to authorities.

Shortly thereafter, he broke a window and began throwing furniture onto an occupied pool deck, prompting guests to take refuge inside the lobby and forcing the hotel to close. Mannix was finally apprehended around 2:40 p.m. m. PDT after the SWAT team entered the room, while the hostage was being escorted to safety. The woman reportedly had cuts and bruises on her leg, which could have been signs of assault.

Officers said Mannix was “so high” at the time of his arrest that paranoia resulted. “[Mr. Mannix] was so high that he was paranoid and had a schizophrenic episode where he would yell random comments and numbers and say he would pay for everything because he has a lot of money,” the arrest affidavit says. He is currently being held at the Clark County Detention Center.Read More…...
